In 1887 Harper's Magazine sent Lafcadio Hearn to the West Indies to write a series of articles on the area. Following his time there, he wrote 'Two Years in the French West Indies', in 1890, chronicling his observations and experiences in the region.Patrick Lafcadio Hearn, also known by the Japanese name Koizumi Yakumo, was a Greek-Irish writer who later became a naturalized Japanese citizen. He is best remembered for his books about Japanese culture, especially his collections of legends and ghost stories, such as Kwaidan: Stories and Studies of Strange Things.
