Soft Undoing

A Soft Undoing (Volume One) is the opening movement of a two-part inquiry into rupture and repair, published by In Between Knots in 2026. This issue reframes undoing not as failure or collapse, but as an essential, ongoing condition of living. It asks how our lives become entangled, how those connections loosen, and how repair might emerge through sustained attention rather than final resolution. While the broader issue spans two volumes, Volume One turns inward. It gathers intimate, embodied works that navigate the delicate textures of heartbreak, memory, migration, identity, intimacy, and loss. Within these pages, undoing is personal and felt - located in the body, in the nuances of language, and in the slow work of remaking a sense of home. The volume is anchored by the first part of an interview with anthropologist Tim Ingold, whose reflections on the life of lines conceptually and materially stitch the issue together.
