E-book: Read via Vital Source

When you buy an e-book at Academicbooks.dk, the book must either be downloaded (and read via the program Adobe Digital Editions) or read via Vital Source’s website or their app. In the following section, you can read more about what to do if your book must be read via Vital Source (Bookshelf).

If you have purchased a book that must be downloaded, you can read more information here.

Note:

Please be aware that for some exams, it is only permitted to bring physical books. If you wish to bring your e-book to an exam, it is therefore important that you inform yourself about the exam format and whether e-books are allowed. Furthermore, you should be aware that the page numbers in the e-book do not always match the page numbers in the physical edition.

When you have purchased a Vital Source e-book, you have the opportunity to take notes, highlight paragraphs, make your own flashcards, and you can also have the book read aloud.

Get access to your e-book

When you have purchased your e-book, you will get access to the book through an e-book reader from Vital Source. You can choose to read the book online (in a web browser) or download a Vital Source app for your computer, tablet, or iPhone/Android smartphone.

You can register yourself as a user on Vital Source (which we recommend), and then you will be able to log in to Vital Source from multiple devices (though only 2 devices at a time).

If you choose not to register yourself as a user, you will be able to access the e-book later by clicking the activation link you received when you purchased the book. This activation link is a one-off link, and you will therefore be redirected to a page where you have to enter the email you used to purchase the book. Hereafter, you will receive a new activation link (though only if the e-mail matches the e-mail used to purchase the book).

Please note: the activation link will expire after 6 weeks.

Get the complete reading experience

You will only be able to make notes and highlight words in the e-book once you have registered as a user with a password. As a registered user, you will also be able to download the Vital Source e-book reader to your computer, tablet, or iPhone/Android smartphone.

We therefore always recommend that you register yourself as a user in order to get the complete reading experience as well as easier access to the e-book.

Please note: The access to a Vital Source e-book via a web browser is limited to 365 days, but if you download the app (and download the e-book into the app), it will be available for a longer time. The longest duration of availability is infinite (which means that you have bought the e-book and own it forever), which is the most common. Some e-books you can rent for shorter durations of time, for example, 180 days (about 6 months).

Please note that you will not be able to buy more copies of the same e-book, as we are dealing with a license attached to one user.

Please note that we do not sell e-books abroad.

I have clicked on the link, but now I cannot find my book. What should I do?

Your e-book can be found via the account that you created when you bought the book. To find the book, you have to log in here: https://reader.academicbooks.dk with the e-mail you used to buy the book. The link you received in the e-mail was to activate the e-book in order for you to access the e-book for the first time after creating an account.

I no longer have access to my e-book in Vital Source?

Some of our e-books can be bought with a time-limited access, which is why the accessibility of the book expires. If you need the e-book for a longer period of time, you will have to buy the same e-book with a new time limit to access the book. The period is valid from the day you activate your e-book.

I have bought an e-book with a time-limited access. Where do I see when it will expire?

Below each book that you have bought time limited access to you will find the information.

This is probably because you have already clicked on the “once only” link, and the book has correctly been uploaded to your account. You only need to access https://reader.academicbooks.dk and log in with the e-mail that you used when you bought the book. Then you should be able to find your book.
